Dubai to Abu Dhabi by private car: a practical guide
Abu Dhabi is the most requested intercity journey from Dubai, whether for a day of sightseeing, meetings in the capital or a flight from Zayed International Airport. Here is what to know before you book a private car.
Distance and driving time
The two city centres are roughly 140 km apart. The drive usually takes around an hour and a half, but your exact pick-up and drop-off points and the time of day make a real difference: leaving from Dubai Marina or Jebel Ali is shorter than leaving from Deira, and rush hours add time.

- Yas Island and Saadiyat Island
- Zayed International Airport (AUH)
One-way, return or full day?
If you are staying in Abu Dhabi, a one-way transfer is all you need. For a day trip, compare two one-way transfers with a full-day booking: with a full day, the same driver stays with you, your belongings stay in the car and you can change plans as you go.
Which car to choose
For one or two travellers, an executive or luxury sedan is ideal. Families with luggage are more comfortable in a Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon (6 passengers, 6 bags) or a Mercedes-Benz V-Class (7 passengers, 7 bags). Larger groups can travel together in a minibus or coach.
